BLA Suicide Attack Pakistan: In a shocking and brutal attack, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing that killed 90 Pakistani soldiers on the RCD Highway near Noshki, Balochistan. This incident, which took place on Sunday, involved a convoy of eight military vehicles traveling from Quetta to Kaftan. The attack marks one of the most devastating assaults by BLA on the Pakistani military to date.

The Deadly Attack

According to BLA, its Majeed and Fateh brigades were behind the attack. A suicide bomber drove a vehicle loaded with explosives into the convoy, leading to a massive explosion that destroyed several vehicles. Following the initial blast, the Fateh Squad infiltrated the convoy, further intensifying the damage. Pakistani police, however, have downplayed the incident, claiming that only five soldiers were killed and 10 others injured due to a roadside bomb. However, visuals from the site and BLA’s own statement indicate otherwise.

Train Hijack Incident Just Days Earlier

Just five days prior, the BLA had hijacked a passenger train in the Bolan district of Balochistan. The Jaffar Express, traveling from Quetta to Peshawar, was attacked in the Mashkaf area, a mountainous region with 17 tunnels. The BLA claimed to have killed 214 Pakistani soldiers who were onboard. However, Pakistani authorities acknowledged the death of only 28 soldiers, with all 33 Baloch fighters also reported dead in the incident.

The BLA’s Motives and Operations

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) is one of the most powerful separatist groups fighting for independence from Pakistan. Formed in the 1970s, the organization aims to liberate Balochistan from Pakistani and Chinese control, asserting that the region’s resources rightfully belong to the Baloch people. The Pakistani government designated the BLA as a terrorist organization in 2007. However, their struggle continues, with frequent clashes between BLA fighters and Pakistani security forces.

Pakistan’s Response

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack, stating that the government would continue its war against terrorists until the last one is eliminated. Pakistan has deployed helicopters for rescue and surveillance operations in the affected area. Furthermore, additional security forces have been deployed in the region to prevent further escalations.

Global Terrorism Index 2025 Report

According to the latest Global Terrorism Index (GTI) report 2025 by the Sydney-based Institute for Economics and Peace, Pakistan ranks as the second most terror-affected country in the world. The report highlights that 90% of all terrorist incidents in the country occur in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The report also names Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan as the most dangerous terrorist organization in Pakistan, responsible for 482 attacks resulting in 558 deaths in 2024 alone. Additionally, Balochistan has become a central battlefield for various militant groups fighting against the Pakistani government.

Historical Context of Balochistan Conflict

The conflict between Baloch separatist groups and the Pakistani government dates back to 1948 when Balochistan was forcibly annexed into Pakistan. Since then, multiple insurgencies have erupted, driven by the Baloch people’s desire for greater autonomy, resource control, and cultural recognition. Despite heavy-handed responses from the Pakistani military, the struggle for Balochistan’s independence continues to gain momentum.

Future Implications

The BLA’s increasing attacks, coupled with Pakistan’s aggressive retaliation, suggest that the conflict is far from over. The international community’s focus on human rights and regional stability may further complicate matters. Additionally, with China investing heavily in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that passes through Balochistan, the geopolitical stakes have only heightened.

ByNews-View

The BLA’s recent attack on the Pakistani army convoy and its previous train hijacking incident reveal the escalating tension and violence in the region. With Pakistan already battling numerous insurgencies, the growing strength of the BLA poses a significant challenge to its stability. As both sides continue their struggle, the conflict shows no sign of abating anytime soon.
