Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Why Was Principal Not Questioned? CBI Ordered

Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: On Tuesday (August 13), the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI inquiry into the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor. The court reprimanded the West Bengal government over the investigation. The division bench headed by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam asked why the police have not yet questioned Dr Sandip Ghosh, the then principal of RG Kar Medical College.

The High Court said that something is missing in the investigation. When Dr. Sandeep Ghosh resigned from the post taking moral responsibility, how could he be appointed in another medical college immediately after his resignation? He should have been questioned first, but this did not happen.

The court told the West Bengal government to send Sandip Ghosh on a long leave. If you do not do anything, we will have to pass an order. He is not much affected by the doctor’s death. He should stay at home, there is no need to work anywhere.

The principal had said – the trainee doctor was like my daughter

Dr Sandeep Ghosh resigned on Monday (August 12) saying that the trainee doctor was like my daughter. As a parent, I am resigning. However, within 12 hours the state government appointed him as the principal of Calcutta Medical College and Hospital. The doctors are very angry about this.

The Calcutta High Court is hearing several petitions related to the rape-murder case of the trainee doctor. One of these petitions is filed by the parents of the trainee doctor, in which they had demanded a court-monitored investigation into their daughter’s death.

Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Court Room live –

Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya ( lawyer for the doctor’s parents): We were first told that she (victim) was ill. Then it was said that she committed suicide. The parents were called to the hospital. They were made to sit for three hours. The police asked them to settle the matter. The CM says that the case will be handed over to the CBI after a few days. By then the evidence will be destroyed.

Chief Justice Sivagnanam: If it is true that someone told the parents that she was ill and then committed suicide, then there has been a lapse somewhere.

Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya ( lawyer for the doctor’s parents) : It is on record that the police have registered a case of suicide.

State Government: All such cases are registered as unnatural deaths.

Court: The victim was part of the system. Some sensitivity should have been shown towards her. She spent her life working for the system. If it is true that her parents were made to wait in the hospital and were misled, then the administration is playing with them. You cannot treat the deceased like this.

Court: The principal had resigned due to moral responsibility. The government rewarded him with a second appointment letter within 12 hours. Then there is a fear that something wrong will happen if time is wasted in the investigation.

Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya ( lawyer for the doctor’s parents) : Ask them to give the case diary. This has happened before. The current CP has messed up the investigation before as well. The case diary should be brought at 2 pm.

State Government: We will show a report tomorrow.

Court: We will give you time but how will you ensure that nothing goes wrong in the meantime?

State Government: ACP-I is supervising.

Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya ( lawyer for the doctor’s parents): Then he will be transferred.

Court: The principal will not work. Let him go on a long leave. Otherwise we will give an order.

Court: Did the principal give a statement?

State: No. We’ll take it.

Court: What is this? His statement should be recorded first. He is not above the law. How did this happen? Why are you protecting him? Let him speak the truth. Something has gone wrong here.

The body of a trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the hospital

On Friday (August 9) morning, the body of a 31-year-old trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the emergency building of RG Kar Hospital. She was on night duty. The doctor was bleeding from her private parts, eyes and mouth. Her neck bone was also found broken.

A headphone was found near the doctor’s body. Police arrested civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, who works with Kolkata Police, in this case on August 9. Sanjay was seen entering the emergency building at around 4 am on Friday in the CCTV camera. He was wearing a headphone at that time. However, he did not have a headphone around his neck when he came out of the building at around 6 am.

Postmortem report reveals brutality against trainee doctor

The police handed over the postmortem report to the trainee doctor’s family on Monday (August 12), stating that after raping and assaulting the doctor, the accused strangulated and killed her. The incident is estimated to have taken place between 3 and 5 am on Friday.

The four-page postmortem report said that the accused had brutally assaulted the doctor. Deep wounds were found on his private parts. The accused continuously pressed his nose, mouth and throat to suppress the doctor’s voice. The thyroid cartilage was broken due to strangulation.

The doctor’s head was pushed against the wall so that he could not scream. Injuries were found on his stomach, lips, fingers and left leg. Then he was attacked with such force that his glasses broke. The glass of the glasses broke and entered his eyes. There was bleeding from both eyes, mouth and private parts.

Trained boxer accused of Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Glass pieces found in trainee doctor’s eye; Doctors across the country on strike for the second day

Many revelations have been made about Sanjay Roy, accused of the rape-murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Police said on Monday (August 12) that Sanjay is a trained boxer.

On the night of 8-9 August, he brutally assaulted the doctor in the seminar hall of the hospital. Sanjay hit the doctor so hard that the glass of his glasses broke and entered his eyes. This caused bleeding in his eyes.

Resident doctors across the country are on strike for the second day today in protest against the incident. OPD services are affected in government hospitals including AIIMS Delhi. Only emergency services are running. Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has filed an RG and demanded resignation of all the hospital officials.

Junior doctors in Bengal have given an ultimatum to Kolkata Police to complete their investigation by August 14. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that if the police are unable to complete the investigation by August 18, she will hand over the case to the CBI.
