Vladimir Putin: Vladimir Putin has won the election for the post of President of Russia for the fifth consecutive time. He has won the elections (Russian Elections 2024) with about 88 percent votes. Russia’s Central Election Commission said on Monday that Vladimir Putin has won the presidential election in the country. He has secured the fifth term of the presidency with record vote percentage. 71 year old Putin has not lost an election even once since 1999.

Russia’s Central Election Commission said on Monday that votes cast in nearly 100 percent of the precincts had been counted and Putin had received 87.29 percent of the votes. Commission head Ella Pamfilova said that about 76 million people voted for Putin, which is the highest number of votes he has received so far.

Putin’s victory in this election underlines his control over the country’s political system. There were only three nominal candidates facing Putin. Anyone who opposed the Ukraine war was not allowed to run against Putin.

Became President for the first time in 2000

Let us tell you that Vladimir Putin has been leading Russia as President or Prime Minister since December 1999. He became the President of Russia for the first time in the year 2000. He remained on this post till 2008. In 2012, then President Medvedev asked his party to once again nominate Putin as the presidential candidate. After this, Putin won the 2012 elections. Since then till now he has been holding the post of President.

Putin can remain President of Russia till 2036

It is written in the Russian Constitution that no person can become President for more than two consecutive terms. Due to this, on May 8, 2008, Putin made his PM Dmitry Medvedev the President of Russia and became the PM himself. In November 2008, Dmitry amended the Constitution to increase the presidential term from 4 to 6 years. After this, in 2012, Putin again became the President of Russia. In January 2020, Putin abolished the two-term presidential limit through a constitutional amendment. With this, the way was cleared for Putin to remain President till 2036.

We have a lot of work – Vladimir

Putin Didn’t succeed in suppressing our conscience.” “They have failed in the past and they will fail in the future,” he said.

There was a ban on criticizing the war in Ukraine

There was a ban on publicly criticizing Putin and the war in Ukraine during the elections. Independent media was paralysed. Alexei Navalny, 71, Putin’s most vocal political opponent, died in an Arctic prison last month. His other critics are either in jail or in exile.

Many heads of state congratulated

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the presidents of Honduras, Nicaragua and Venezuela congratulated Putin on his victory. At the same time, the leaders of Central Asian countries – Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, which came into existence after the disintegration of the Soviet Union – have also congratulated Putin. Western countries rejected the election as a sham.

Britain’s Foreign Minister David Cameron wrote on the social media platform “It was not. This is not what a free and fair election looks like.”
